Create DMG

I am trying to create a .dmg backup image of my BootCamp Windows partition using Disk Utility.

DU reads about 1/5 of the partition and then pops an error message that says "Unable to Create <imaename> - Input Output error"

I tried booting from the OS X install disk and running the Disk Utility from there--no luck.

The partition is FAT32 format so that OS X can read it.

OS X 10.4.1; iMac Core Duo.

Probably too big to compress? Or the pc files aren't being read correctly by MacOSX/DMG and so an error is getting thrown?

DMG is meant for files, and I imagine quite a few files, but not in the magnitude and format you're talking about. But I could be wrong.
