Custom paper sizes in Page Setup??

I have repeatedly tried to define custom paper sizes for my G4/10.2.8 + Epson 1280, but the new sizes don't seem to "take".

Have tried a "1/2 letter-horiz" (8.5X5.5 -- to print CD inserts...) and an "11X14" in Page Setup / Paper Attributes dialog, but the OS continues to define them as "letter" size regardless on my having properly (as far as I can tell) defined the paper dimensions.

Really need other than the default sizes to fully utilize the 1280, and could do this easily on OS9. Am I overlooking something obvious?

HELP??

The custom paper sizes that you create are stored (selectable under the paper sizes), but the default, if you change the default, does not always show the stored custom size. You would still need to select that custom size in page setup to verify before you print. I have had some success with keeping a custom paper size as the default, but not all the time, and not every time. I always check, and the custom sizes are always in the list.

'Fraid that's not the problem; I'm not trying to change the default -- just create a new size.

And when I do, Page Setup still shows ""11X14", for example, as having a paper size of 8.5X11 despite my assigning it 11X14 in the Paper Attributes.....

I thought you were having a problem saving defaults!
So, after SAVING a custom paper size (change the dimensions to something random just to test this), when you go to Page Setup, and choose that new custom Paper Size, the dimensions do not show what you just saved, but something else? like 8.5 x 11?

That's correct: After SAVING the 2 custom sizes to which I originally referred, BOTH show up as 8.5 X 11.

hmm... ?

Do the custom sizes work anyway?
I assume you're asking the question because it's not working for you. (and not just because it reports the page size inaccurately)

GEE: that seemed like a silly question, but maybe not. I went back to double check, and with 11X14 selected, the printer DOES act-like/seems-to-think it's printing to 8X10.

BUT -- with the 8.5X5.5 custom size selected, the printer acts as intended....

Perhaps I have to first select a default size (e.g. 12X19) larger than the custom (e.g. 11X14) before actually DEFINING the new custom.

That would be weird but acceptable if I can get it to work (though that still precludes 13X19, which I need and COULD use in OS9).

Will investigate further.

OK -- now that we've (re-)established that I'm dumb as a doorknob....

As it turns out, I have both a 1280 _AND_ an 870 attached to the G4. On the Page Setup dialog, for "Format for:", I'd left it on the default "All Printers". But, of course, an 870 can't print to 11X14, so it wouldn't accept the size.

Perhaps the folks at Apple are actually as smart as they say they are.

Sorry.
