desktop hd disappear? how to?

i know that all mac has a hard drive picture on their desktop but i was wondering is it possible to make the hd disappear? with programs or with hack or something?

Yop. I have made everything on hte desktop disappear on one work mac a few months back.. nothing has fixed it so far. I've got no clue how I managed to do it - in finder and all the programs it works fine however. Maybe osme software updates etc could fix it, I just don't want to kill the uptime...

I don't think he's got a "disappearing icons" problem, Gia, I think he's asking how to make the hard drives not show up on the desktop.

From the menubar:
Finder > Preferences > General > "Show these items on the Desktop:"
