Diagnostic tool

Possibly linked to my previous internet connection utility. In my partner's environment (her user partition of our Mac), the diagnostic tool pops up regularly. I use disk utility to repair permissions every so often, but it's not saying there is any problem.

I'd try to create a third account (as you don't have the problems with the first one) for her. Then, when everything's fine with that one for her, delete the second one.

Which "diagnostic tool" are you referring to? I don't recall Mac OS X ever popping up a diagnostic tool... do you mean Disk Utility?

This sounds suspiciously like some Symantec / Norton package.
