Hello,

I am new and hoping for a bit of support on how to fix this. I have the Intel iMac and everytime i try and insert a disc...its accepted...and then two seconds later it is ejected. It doesn't popup on the desktop it is just ejected, no signs on the disc being at all shown up on the system...

This is a huge pain as i am always burning discs with files and alsorts of stuff to transfer to college and keeping record of my files/coursework.

It would be highly appreciated if anybody could help me..

Thank you :)

Try one of the disks that came with your new Intel iMac. If the OS X restore DVD is immediately ejected, then you have a problem with the drive,

Do try a couple of different kinds of disks, like a commercial music CD, or another CD (original, not a copy), just to see if any type of disks ARE mounting.
Try to boot to the restore DVD (insert the DVD while the system is shutting down, so it doesn't try to eject, then press the power button, and immediately hold the letter C. Release the C when you see the 'rotating gear' and (if working) should boot to the restore DVD...
If the disk simply ejects, and will not boot to that disk, then next step is repair, and you should call AppleCare, or take to an Apple repair center/Apple Store...

Hello and thanks for your response. It just ejected it back out. I wonder how long it will take for it to be fixed if i do take it back to the retailer tonight..I cannot be doing without my mac for any time at all..i hope they can fix it in a short period of time if possible...or replace my mac with a new one.

Anyways, thanks for your help DeltaMan, appreciated. I'll post back with the news on whats happening.

Regards

What a joke...

I walked into where i bought it from, it was not an apple store so i am not disrespecting apple at all, i have bought products from apple stores and had amazing support and service.

However this is not the case with a 3rd party retailer...reseller...I walked in and they hardly knew how to turn the thing on nevermind fix it. They booted it up and he put a CD in and then it rejected it...He said to me "You seem to be having a problem with your CD drive i see"...well i spent 30 minutes explaining to him what the problem was and i even showed him...well...lets not go there...

He then says to me...Theres not much i can do, "It might be the keyboard...BRB" he goes and grabs another apple keyboard and tries it, doesn't work (I even explained to him i tried this also...along with resetting the SMC and NVRAM. He didn't even know what that was..for a few seconds then he knew what it meant but then didnt know how to do it..

He referred me to phone a number where they'd come and collect it...They would then fix it...Not much help what so ever, i extended my warranty so shouldnt i get a on the spot replacement if they cant fix it? If its under 28 days? Well today is the 30th day....just brilliant...!

I am going to have to send it off by the looks of it :(

Anybody had this problem before and had it fixed, did they tell you exactly what the problem was?

Regards,

I wouldn't go back to that poor excuse for a reseller - hope you don't give them any more of your money. :)

Your drive is bad, and needs to be replaced. Apple will usually try to repair it first (replacing your drive), before offering a system replacement. It does sometimes help if you get loud and annoying over the phone to Applecare, but normally, a gentle request may get you what you want. AppleCare will offer you on-site service first.

Or, take to an Apple Store, or Apple Authorized service shop, if you have one local to you.

Thanks for your comments DeltaMac, i will be on the phone to them in a weeks time because i have to go on holiday so nobody will be home to give it to the collection folk and on return :( Just more waiting.

I've setup a network between my two macs so i am having to copy to my other mac and use that drive to burn. Annoying but its the best i've got atm :(

Thanks for your comments, i hope it's just a drive replacement. I'm starting to get really fustrated without it being able to be used right now.

Many thanks,

Jambo
