Disk Drive spittting out my disks.

I just replaced my mouse with a new Mighty Mouse. When I inserted the software disk, it clanked around for less than a minute and spit it back out. Last week I tried to access some photos I had stored on disk and the same thing happened. I thought maybe the disk was damaged - now it seems to be the driver. How Can I check it? What can I do to fix it?

Thanks

I'm back! Unfortunately so is my problem. I have been in every nook and cranny on my computer to try to get my CD/DVD drive working. Here my info - any suggestion?

located 9 system folder/extensions (does not open when I click on icon)

Music CD - opens in itunes
Blank CD - prompted - what do you want to do?
DVD - clanks 10 seconds ejects
Photo CD - clanks 10 seconds ejects
Software CD - clanks 10 seconds ejects

System preference settings
Blank CD - Ask what to do
Blank DVD - Ask what to do

Is there something I can try? Reset Prams - no difference.
