I am using MacOS High Sierra version 1.13.6. I have downloaded an app called Family Tree Builder but right click and open does nothing. No response at all. I thought it might be a problem with that particular app but then I downloaded some security software for my internet banking and that, too, will not respond. What is the solution?

It is your security setting that is preventing the app from opening/installing.

Go to System Preferences>Security & Privacy
Click on the padlock at the bottom of the window to unlock it. Type in your password.
In the General tab - in the bottom half under Allow apps downloaded from: select 'App store and identified developers'.
Click on the padlock to lock the setting.

Now give those apps a try.

I had a similar problem a couple weeks ago, but with ‘old’ apps. Not all, but some, and frequently used. Click on a dock icon - nothing. Double click an app file - nothing. Right click and select open - nothing.

A reboot fixed it.
