DNS problem

Dear Person who knows about this:
I work at a small school. I have had an open directory (lapd) running smoothly for a few years. Then we had a power outage and something changed.
I have 2 servers : an xserve 10.4.11 where the accounts & home folders are stored and a g4 running dns via another server admin program.
After the outage it was no longer possible to log in (smb & afp folder not found). I fixed that by redoing the dns settings on the g4.
Now, the system "seems" to be working ok but I am getting a funny error in the dns log. The line in question is :
bigmac.seabury.lan.lan.lan.lan.lan.lan.lan.seaburyhall.lan A
Why are there all these .lan.lan.lan popping up? Also, the home directories for each user changed to ones with these extra suffixes and I had to manually reset each one in workgroup manager -> accounts->home
I suspect the problem is on the xserve.
Does anyone have a clue ? I would appreciate any information. Roberta
p.s. my dns from the g4 dns server follows:

DNS is also used to resolve names inside a network, and not just for the internet -- in which case, OpenDNS wouldn't help at all.

In the "DNS" section of "Server Admin" under "Zones" and "Secondary Zones", what entries do you have in there? Anything to the tune of "dns.dns.dns.dns.[ad infinitum]"?

On the g4 ver 10.39 server admin dns tab I a have the following zones on the left of the screen. I have attached 4 screen shots. Thank you so much for looking at this.
