Downloading Media

When you download videos off of iTunes, can you use the video outside of iTunes and use it as you will or are you stuck with it in iTunes?

Videos on itunes uses DRM so iTunes (and maybe Quicktime) is needed to play the videos. Please blame the MPAA, not Apple.

You can play it in QuickTime Player, but I think that's it. They will NOT play in other QuickTime-based programs; Apple specially integrated support into QTP.

I assume they'll also play in Front Row, and of course they'll work on Apple's devices (iPod, AppleTV).

I'm not aware of any third-party apps or devices that can play them.

Thanks guys. When you download any media off of iTunes, are you able to burn (as data) and bring it to another computer?

Also, Satcomer; even though it is DRM's fault, Apple should have been smarter then to use it.

It was the only way for Apple to get movies(MPAA) & music(RIAA) to sell. Without DRM, Apple (and all other sellers) would not be able to sell music or movies. Now you can understand why I can't play DVD videos I bought while overseas in my home DVD, that's the DVD region fault. This is another example of the MPAA greed. Now do you understand?

I think their movies have similar restrictions to their music. That is, you can authorize up to 5 computers to play movies bought from your account, and you can also play them on an unlimited number of iPods. I'm sure Apple has a license agreement somewhere with the full details. The key difference is that you cannot burn movies to DVD (edit: I mean video DVD; burning as data should be no problem), whereas you can burn music to CD.

No DRM, no content.

But I have a question. Most know about the work around for songs bought from iTunes...burm them to CD, then reimport...but does this also work for video?

I've never tried it, but I couldn't see that causing a problem. The only thing is that it probly would have decreased video quality and sound.

When I got home, I decided to try downloading a tv show to see how it is, but when I went to the iTunes store, I can't find any videos for my life. I went to help but it didn't seem to work. All it told me was that under genre's I should see tv shows but I don't. Does anyone have a better way of describing where it is located?

Launch iTunes.
Click iTunes Store in the side panel.
Scan down the iTunes panel. Locate TV Shows third on the list below Music and Movies.

Oops! I didn't catch that you live in Canada.

I don't think they offer videos in Canada yet, though. At least it looks that way from their Canadian web site.

Ya, after looking at it further I think that Mikuro is correct. It would definitly make sense atleast considering that I live in Canada and even when I searched for the show, it still can't find anything.

Is there a way that I can still download tv shows like you do you with apple? because I would much rather buy the shows and get the quality.

Now you open a whole _other_ can of worms. The quality Apple sells TV shows at is simply sub-par. You'll get 4:3 encoded video, missing much of the original aspect ratio of current quality TV. But no, there's no workaround for that, because Apple simply has not yet released any TV shows outside of the USA AFAIK. There are illegal ways, but we can't talk about them here. (Board rules.)

Ya, they seemed to edit my post when I talked about it. Are their other websites that sell tv shows that are good quality and legal?
