Dual booting

I just got a Dual 1.25Ghz PowerPC G4. I was told I'd be able to dual boot but I'm beginning to believe otherwise. I really like OSX but most of my old audio programs run on OS9 only, however when I go to system prefs, startup disk there's no OS9 option there. I've tried re-installing os9 but have had no luck. Any suggestions? Oh yea, alsow hen I tr to launch OS9 it launches from what I can see but then minimizes...
Thanks a bunch!

Did you install Classic, or did you boot from an OS 9 installer CD and install OS 9? In order to be able to boot into OS 9, rather than just using it for the Classic environment under OS X, you had to have booted from an OS 9 installer CD and installed it.

Ohh ok.. So how would I boot from the installation disk to install it? This won't erase anything that has to do with OSX will it?

simply insert the OS9 install disk, reboot and hold the key 'c' to boot from the cd/dvd. The installation of OS9 won't erase your current system if you won't explicitly tell it to erase the disk.

Okay I've tried holding down "c" after reboot with the installation disk inserted but it's not giving me an options- it just boots like normal.. I'm wondering if I have the right disk, my disk says "Power Mac G4 Software Install and Restore" Mac OS 10.2.3 (but It also has OS9 classic on it and I can install it from OSX. It also says "To start up from Mac OS X on this DVD hold down the C key as the computer starts up.

Well, then, you don't have a copy of OS 9 -- you've got a copy of the Classic environment, which is not enough to have a fully-bootable installation of OS 9.

Still doesn't explain why you can't boot from the CD/DVD, though.

How can I get a copy of OS9?
I was able to boot from the cd finally after shutting down and starting up again.. Does OS9 usually come with G4s?

If you're sure it's not a model that also has FW800 (which canNOT boot OS 9), you can go to any Apple dealership and tell them that you've bought this machine second-hand and are missing the original 9.x disk. They just might give you a copy or install it for you.

Thanks everyone for your replies.. Looks like I might have to buy another mac to boot os9, this one has FW800. : ) Are there any alternatives?

No. Unless you mean buying another Mac, that is. If so, then any _older_ Mac will do. You might find somebody willing to switch your Mac (which is newer, anyway) to a Dual 1.25 GHz with FW400?
