I think my dvd drive on macbook is bad not allowing the computer to start. How can I disconnect dvd to test.

The DVD drive can be disconnected after removing the top case, which has the keyboard.
I think there are disassembly videos at iFixit.com, and maybe a pdf somewhere that can walk you through that task.
But, you can bypass that internal, by using an external DVD drive for most purposes. Best choice is one with a Firewire and USB interface.

Yes, just a ribbon cable.

I don't recall having a failed DVD drive causing the hard drive to not boot. Usually, it's a failing hard drive... S0 - I expect that disconnecting the DVD drive won't help.
But, it's your time, so give it a try...

I opened top up and disconnected on hard wire harness from dvd. Low and behold it fired up. It was not allowing the sequence of boot up to continue since it most likely checks for booting from dvd, usb to hd. Save this info for you file....thanks again.
