DVD player starts after resetting & login issue

Hi,
When I recently had to reset the root admin password on a friend's mac. Now when we restart it, the DVD player and sometimes Safari will open up automatically. Not to mention it requires you to login as well every time you reset. How can we fix the issue with the DVD player and Safari, as well as get rid of the login restarting the computer.

Note: there is only one user account on the computer.

System Preferences->Accounts & Login Items tab. Then after that go to the application /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utility and Repair Permissions on the drive. Plus in System Preferences->CD & DVDs pane to turn on or off auto start when inserted. Reboot about doing these things to make sure the changes took, good luck.
