DVDs locking up.

Hello tech folks,

I'm either having trouble with my DVD player or DVDs in general are unstable.

The disks just keep locking up and/or freezing. Far too often I've had to force quit and re-boot to get the machine runing again. Sometimes I even have to shut it down manually.

My maching is a G4 Mac Mini (OSX Tiger) with a gig of RAM and a 4X DVD+RW/CD-RW Super Drive. With that much fire-power I can't see why I'm having so much trouble.

I've seen $50 DVD players from K-Mart that operate without flaw. Have you heard of this problem with the Mini before?

Thanks,

First take a can of compressed air and put the long straw in the nozzle. Then tip your Mini up and an angle and holding the compressed air can and a 35-45 angle blow the dust out of the drive. Also consider a CD/DVD cleaning disk to see if that helps.

SuperDrive's do fail, especially the smaller slot loading drives. They are mechanical and can fail in a number of ways.
