hey all, i am looking for an email client (like Mail) but it has to support IMAP and aol accounts. i'm using Mozilla Thunderbird and it's ok, it keeps disconnecting me at random times. any suggestions?

Are AOL accounts any different from POP3 or IMAP? If they're one of those, Mail.app is just perfect. And free, too.

If AOL accounts are something very special, then you might want to stick with an AOL (mozilla) based browser/mail program.

no, Mail.app won't work. read this here

never mind, i changed a preference in mail to authenticate when sending emails, problem solved.

The most popular email clients for OS X, next to Apple's own Mail, are Qualcomm's Eudora or Microsoft's Entourage. Like Mail they both support IMAP and POP accounts. A search on Versiontracker will turn up several other candidates as well.

As far as AOL goes, who knows. They like to use their own proprietary protocols and are often out of step with everyone else's standards.

We used a temp account under Panther for my Uncle to check his AOL Mail this weekend...no problems using the mail app. We used a different SMTP server, since we were connecting to AOL through a current inet connection.

If you're not using AOL for your connection (using another ISP), then DON'T use AOL for the outgoing SMTP server...use the one from your ISP. Otherwise it'll reject your stuff.
