Hey

When I press "enter" i can rename stuff.. But I don't want it to do that. How do I change the "enter-button" to enter a directory or open a file instead of renaming? Is it possible?

Hmm... Don't press enter at all, just double-click, or use a 3-button mouse, right-click, and choose open. Am I missing something here?

You can use Command-O. (Letter O, not zero)

Perhaps there's a keyboard mapping utility that will let you generate a cmd-O from the enter key....?

How about hitting "end" and being taken to the end of a line, instead of the end of a document, which seems to be normal behavior?

(edit - okay, was just testing this on some apps, I can't figure out where "end" used to take me to the end of a document instead of the end of a line ("home" had similar behavior). Most apps (like Word) seem to behave like I expect, or just ignore the end and home keys (like Safari, in text boxes). I swear Word v.X used to act differently. Was I dreaming this behavior? Or is it because I'm running Panther now, maybe?)

Thanks for all your answers

I found a program on macupdate.com named Keyboardremap.. and it WORKS :)

you are probably coming from the darkside (windows), right? This was also the first thing I was hardly able to handle. But now it's working just fine. No tools needed and somehow it turned really practical to me (renaming files with enter and opening them with apple+o)

Right, like when you create a new folder, the name isn't automatically selected. So in OS X, you have to push Return before you can enter a new name for that folder.

Ripcord: Some programs, especially browsers, use Home and End to go to the top or bottom of the page. Others, like Word, use Cmd-Home or Cmd-End, and simply pushing Home or End goes to the beginning or end of the text line, like you pointed out.
