Hi,
I am technically challenged...appreciate help....
I have been using airport card, on Ibook G3, to use internet, in my apt community. wireless serv provided by management. sometimes slow, so decided to order my own service through local cable company ( already cable ready apt). when cable guy hooked me up, i switched setting from airport, to modem/ethernet. NOT CONNECTED messege appeared. automaticly swithed me back to airport mode. called cable tech support. they walked me through some steps, determined that it was my ethernet port, not their connection. what do I do now??????
airport connection still works (even better with cable connect). But need ethernet port to work and allow me usage of cable connect that I'm paying for.

Hi, I"m just as technically challenged, but I just wanted to suggest going to your local mac dealer/repair shop and having someone run some tests on your port. Should be free. I wasn't charged a dime.

My ethernet port stopped working on Sunday (out of the clear blue) and I found out this morning at my local mac repair shop that my ethernet port is finished so now i'm forced to use wireless if I want to keep my macbook orrr pay $700-800 to get the logicboard fixed.

Here's the thread on my experience with all the details:

I hope you don't get the same results I did! Good luck!

:(

thank you for your reply......went to your thread and found info....will try those things...and hopefully get a good result

You are getting ripped off. Take a look at MacService. It's only up to $695.

Up and going now.....was not my computer but my ISP modem......called to cancell service......they sent out a tech.......resolved problem.....had called my ISP first day.....went through steps on phone with tech support......they tried to say it was my port
