ethernet problem

Hi

I need your help or advice on sthg

I got this MAC MINI and everything is fine however I have this problem

I switch on the MAC and everything is more than fine perfect actually and connect to my DSL through the built in Ethernet and it is super quick however what happens is this after 30 – 45 minutes of usage the internet switches off and wont load….what happens is simply the MAC doesn’t recognize that it has an Ethernet port…it becomes non existent….i have tried everything….and the only things that works is this…after this happens I notice that the port is warm so I shut down and wait for five minutes till the port cools down and then VOILA things are normal for another 30 – 45 minutes….my conclusion is the port is warming up and disconnecting…what do you think??

By the way the cable is fine bcs I immediately put it in my laptop and it works perfect

Now some other notes that can help

Usually when there is no ethernet connected there is no light on modem

When it is connected bright green

When my problem happens it blinks green

Trying to connect through system preferences wont work bcs the Ethernet port ceases to exist according to the mac

I go to network utilities and I find the Ethernet but the link status is inactive and has an IP address not related to mine (when thgs work all these are normal as for the console here are things I get

Jun 11 19:23:11 walid-riachis-computer configd[33]: target=enable-network: disabled
Jun 11 19:56:31 walid-riachis-computer configd[33]: posting notification com.apple.system.config.network_change

So this is all what I have so please tell me what the problems is and if it can be fixed bcs I am falling in love with Macs and will defiantly get the IMac or MAcbook pro soon but just want to learn MACS on this MAC MINI

thks

What version of OS X are you running? Use specific version numbers (like 10.4.6, for example).

Is your Mac mini going to sleep when this happens? Remember that unless you tell it not to, the Mac will disable ethernet when it goes into sleep mode.

The other option would be to zap the PRAM by holding down Cmd-Option-P-R at the same time right after the Mac startup chime. Hold it down for three or four chimes and then let go. (BTW, the "Cmd" key is the one with the apple and propeller icon on it.)

version is 10.4.6 and no it is not when it goes to sleep it is when i am working the ethernet port disappears...just disappears.....

tried it very weird problem bcs if it was hardware related it would not have worked at all u know what i mean....

Not true at all... if it were a hardware problem, it may exhibit the exact same symptoms you're describing -- intermittent access, not working all the time, etc.

True, but it's possible that something got mucked up somewhere.

As silly as this sounds, have you tried repairing permissions and running a Repair Disk with Disk utility? The latter will either have to be done with an install disc, Single User Mode (if you're comfortable with that), or booting in Safe Mode will also kick in the Repair Disk option in the background (found this out recently from another user on here).

If none of that works, it's possible that maybe your port just actually failed. Take in into the Apple Store and have them take a look at it. It's possible that the heat is causing it to fail. Do you have the mini in a well ventilated spot or is it somewhere that is restricting airflow?

One other thought. Try and download a LiveCD of a Linux distribution and see if that works. I recommend something like Ubuntu and see if once it's booted whether or not you can get out to the Internet.
