F14/F15 keys incrementally decrease/increase brightness

Unofficial Mac Genius
This is a undocumented feature (AFAIK), so I thought I'd post it here, even though I've brought it up in other threads in other forums.

On Apple Pro Keyboards (and probably other keyboards with F14 and F15 keys), you can press F14 to incrementally decrease the brightness of your screen, and F15 will incrementally increase it.

Not here.

G4 DP800/ 768MB RAM/ 60GB HD/ OS X 10.1.3/ Daewoo 17" CRT

I think it works on my iMac, can't remember. I'll try when I get home.

Works on my DP G4/500 with Apple Studio CRT; my guess is you need an Apple display for this to work?

blb: Perhaps you're right... you might need to have an Apple display for this to work. But it sure as heck does work on my G4 cube with an Apple 15" flat-panel Studio Display.

What I meant by an "Apple display" is a display that comes from Apple itself. This includes the TiBook and iBook monitors, as well as the new iMacs flat-panel monitor and old iMac's CRT monitor.

Basically what I'm trying to say is that you must have an Apple branded CRT or LCD (either integrated or separate) in order for these keys to work.

Yep, that has been my experience. It works on my LCD iMac, but not on any non-Apple branded CRT I've tried. Even using the same machine, a G4/400 with an Apple Studio Display vs. an OptiQuest Q53 it didn't work-- the same machine immediately stopped doing the brightness when a different monitor was plugged in, and when the Studio Display was plugged in the F14-F15 keys worked again.

So, I finally cleared this up I guess :)
