hey there i have QS Upgraded to 1.25mhz and i notice that it takes a while for os x to boot. mostly at the apple grey screen does it take awhile. once the normal boot screen come up it goes prety quick through the normal boot extensions , and then the desktop. i just was curious if there was an option to do that . thanks for any help! ::ha::
 
Usually, certain system maintenance routines run during the "grey Apple screen." If you improperly shut down your computer, or experience a crash, or perhaps the power went out, then you may experience an extended amount of time at the grey screen while disk repair routines and file system journals are run/updated.

Does it still do it if you just do a normal restart by selecting "Restart" from the Apple Menu?
 
If you're curious you can boot holding down Apple v (representing Verbose mode) which will show you everything the bootloader and then the kernel are doing during boot time. That way you can see what's going on.

Incidentally it will also show you what happens when you shut down. This state is temporary (lasts only one boot) but you can make it permanent by writing to NVRAM (I won't get into that unless you want that).

BTW My iBook 366 MHz boots to the login screen nearly as fast as my iMac 700 MHz, not quite, but nearly. Once the user is logged in though, that's where the speed difference is noticeable.
 
thanks for the help! very informative. but yes i feel the ease of use when im logged in and im runnign 10.3.5. although ive run suse on a winbox and have noticed that it seems to take a long time it to boot too. must be a unix thing when its going through all the boot itmes and mounting and stuff thnaks again.
 
MY powerbook boots up faster than some desktops in the office that have Windows XP installed. I guess the performance varies depending on what you have installed on Windows.
