finally got my xserve going one last question

ok i put the xserve in target disk mode and installed osx 10.5 via firewire from another ppc mac.my question is that during the setup it said registering serial number and it registered the serial number of the mac that i was installing from,will this cause any kind of problems or possable legal issues once my xserve accesses the net since the serial number on my xserve is different than the one on the computer i installed it from.thanks
 
Are you confusing a software serial number with a hardware serial number? Software serial numbers are used to activate software, like Mac OS X Server. Hardware serial numbers identify a computer physically, and are usually printed on a sticker somewhere on the outside of the computer... and have nothing to do with software serial numbers nor software in general.

If a software serial number were a key to a car, then the hardware serial number would be the license plate... which has nothing to do with starting the car.

Did it say this after you inputted a software serial number (Like "X-108-GGH-546-XRD-blah blah blah")?
 
yes it was similar.i was just wondering if mac osx server links the software serial number to the hardware serial number.
