Strange problem I'm having. I've looked all over nearly every forum, and have found some related issues, but nothing like whats going on with my Finder.
System:
PowerBook G4 12"
1.25G RAM
Mac OS X 10.4.11
Finder ver 10.4.7
What I did previously to issue:
-Backed up my iPhone
-Watched a movie
-Rebooted after backing up phone and this happened:
Basic issues:
-Finder does not load.
No icons on desktop
Clicking on desktop does not focus to Finder
Can only see where files are with Spotlight
-Finder icon in dock freezes system temporarily when i click it.
-Taskbar only appears when an active window is focused, and when all windows are closed, taskbar freezes again until a new window is opened and focused.
-killall Finder command in Terminal spits this out at all user levels, including sudo: "No matching processes were found"
-ps-A command does not show it running
-Obviously reboot doesnt help, and when i do reboot, after login, everything loads very slowly
I've seen similar problems in other forums and threads, but the diagnosis refers to a System Update, QuickTime update, and other things i didn't do before this crash. I've also seen Finder issuses where the Finder pulls focus to itself on a loop, but this is not my problem, and the diagnosis does not help. My finder folder exists in the CoreSystem directory as i found with a Spotlight search, and I also threw it back into my StartUp items prefpane in the SystemPreferences, so i know the program exists.
It appears to be a system level error, not user, because i created a new user and still, no Finder.
I checked my finder.crash.log and other logs and i can't really pinpoint the problem because it crashes on load, everytime. I'm not very skilled at decoding crashlogs, but if someone would like to help, i can post it here.
Any help and/or direction in this matter would be greatly appreciated.
I wouldnt mind just wiping the drive clean and doing a new install, but ive got some things i would like to transfer to my EXT before doing that, but, no Finder!
Thanks in advance.
