Finder quits/relaunches after changing International settings

Dear,

I've created a new user account in Mac OS 10.5.7 and I have changed the International settings of this user, in particular, I set the language to Portuguese.

Now, when this user logins in, Finder does not start properly.
It quits and immediately tries to restart again.
The result is that the Finder menu blinks on the screen.

I can run other applications normally, Safari, Terminal, etc.
The problem is, AFAIK, only with Finder.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Try to safe boot by holding the shift key until you get a login screen. Log in and see if finder is still acting up. If not reboot normally and hopefully all will be well. If this doesn't work its likely you'll need to archive and install the OS.

Hi djackmac,

I have another use, which is an administrator for the machine.
I can still log with the other user and Finder is okay.

Also, when I change the international settings back to English
for the "problematic" user, Finder works normally again.

So, I think the culprit is that Finder can't handle other languages.
I haven't tried many, just Portuguese and Portuguese (Portugal).

Any other ideas?

Two things could be causing this. First go to /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/ and find the file com.apple.finder.plist and toss it out into the Trash (doing this in the English language). Then go back to the desktop and before launching any other program click on the menu item that says "Finder". Go into Finder's Preferences and reset the preferences the way you want them to be. Then try changing the language back to yours again to see if that helps. Good Luck.

Nope.

That did not fix it.

If I change the language to Italian or Spanish then Finder will behave normally.
The problem seems to be specific to Portuguese.

Bad luck!
