finder to mimick windows' list view

I've set the icon size to 16x16 and have the label position to the right of the icon.

Is it possible to have the "column" spacing increased so that full file name shows up?

i.e
to go from:
This is a long...name

to this:
This is a long filename

I want to get rid of the dots.

Suggestions, tutorials would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

In Column view, you should be able to drag the dividers between listings so it shows longer filenames.

Thanks for the response.

I don't like using column view as I constantly have to resize it. What I prefer is the icon view. I made the icons as small as possible and have labels on the right. I'm trying to mimick the window's list view.

If I use the list view, then everything is in columns with date modified, kind, size, etc. I can remove the date, kind, size columns, but it would still leave my files in one column instead of populating the window.

There must be some setting that controls this, but I can't find it...

I forget what the default setting is in OS X, so this may be of no help, but Onyx allows you to choose between one or two lines for labels, perhaps allowing more characters to be displayed.

Unfortunately you cannot control spacing between icons; this is one of the complaints oft voiced against the OS X finder.

[An advantage of icon view is that it will display icon previews when ever possible, a feature lacking in list and column views.]

You can also set Icon view to Keep Arranged By Name, which will sort it the way I think you want it sorted. No way to change the spacing, unfortunately, not even by changing the font size.
