Firefox 1.0rc1 Now out

Lets see how it does, if anything at all.

I did not get anything when I delibrately spelled something wrong!!

...ok this is so odd. I just came on the forums to ask how I could make Firefox my default browser for everything because it ROCKS.....lol nutty. Im downloadin it now!

Open Safari and go to the Preferences under the Safari Menu, make Firefox the default browser in there.

I've installed FireFox 1.0 and found out that all my previously installed extensions and themes are incompatible :( (doesn't bode well for the browser if this is going to happen in future firefox updates).

Anyone have an idea about:
  • Whether there are any alternatives to the above extensions?
  • How long it should take for the authors to update these extensions (i.e. How big a change was FireFox 1.0)?
  • What new features are in FireFox 1.0 (i.e. What did I get in exchange for giving up my extensions?)

Works the same for email. If you want to use another email client, you set it as default in Mails' preferences.

These probably all suffer from the same stupid issue... their max version number is wrong. It's a quick and easy fix, however each extension must then be re-packaged. Check out the extensions homepage and try to re-install them. That might do the trick. Or check out http://www.extensionsmirror.nl/ (when it comes back up) as they re-package extensions all the time. They did a few for me. :D

I hope this is corrected in the future... it makes absolutely no sense to have the global setting for a preferred application "hidden" in the preferences of the default app.

These settings used to be in the System preferences. For some reason, Apple decided to move them. I know a lot of people posted on Apple Boards about this. Maybe it'll change in Tiger.

Doesn't look like it so far. Even RSS-reader prefs are in Safari 2 as of now in Tiger.
