Firewire Drive Partitioning

I just bought a LaCie 160GB External Firewire Drive, and was trying to partition it, but when I am in disk utility and go to set the partitions, the only format avaliable is MS-DOS. Is there any detriment to using this drive format over Mac OS Extended (Journaled)?

I would like to have to partitions set up, and I would like to use one with Carbon Copy Cloner to make a complete clone of my drive that is also bootable. The other partition I plan to use to store digital video.

Is this setup even possible? Can CCC still work with a partitioned disk?

Also, side note, how do I boot from my firewire drive? I have an eMac with 10.4.2. Thanks!

First thing is first, I hope you have no important data on the drive already. First launch Disk Utility. Then is disk Utility don NOT hight the individual partitions. Hight only the main part of the drive (in the left bar) and choose the partition tab. Then use the pull down button to partition the drive with the number of partitions you want. Carbon Copy will work best with the partition set to Mac OS Extended (Journaled).
