My MacBook is 6 years old. It's on its second power supply.
The power supply suffered the usual broken wire and failed. I was reluctant to pay £65 to Apple for a new power supply, so I got out my knife, took the connector apart, and found that that broken wire was about 1 inch back from the connector.
Although there are four pins on the Magsafe connector the wire to it is a single coaxial cable. The wire in the centre core had broken.
A bit of cutting. A bit of solder. A bit of shrink wrap and a bit of tape and the wire is back together and the MacBook is charging again.
Saved myself £64 or so. What shall I spend it on?
