G4 hardrive addition recommendation

Any new hardrive is okay. Western makes a nice drive, I have been using one in my Mac for a while, as a addition, no problems.

They're all fairly similar. If you want a bit of a speed bump, you might want to consider going for ultra scsi stuff, but they cost loads more. If you just want extra capacity from a standard drive, I can recommend Seagates Barracudas. I've got 2 in my machine (40GB and 80GB) and they've been faultless to date, plus they seem to run quieter than other drives ive used from IBM and WD.

I have a G4 400, one of the first out. It has only a 10GHZ hard drive and I need more. Any reccommendations?

If you ever have a compatibility problem look at xl8yourmac.com . The site is a hardware question heaven.

Thanks for the recommendations. I think I'll take a look at what Seagate has to offer. I do appreciate quietness.

Seagate is one of the worst Hard-drives to get... Either go with Western Digital or Maxtor.

You may have a point there, Seagate only offer a one year warranty as opposed to WD's three years... but they are quiet :D

Seagate just is not the kind of brand I'd trust due to how many I use to test... When I would test hardrives and all kinds of parts for pass or failures...

I have always had the best luck with Western and Maxtor drives. I have had more dead segate drives than any other.

the problem with Seagate drives is the quality... you can go ahead and save 20 dollars on them... but when you lose all your work in a serious crash than you have to understand you were warned lol... :) hehe.

My seagate ones were more expensive than the equivalent maxtor and Westerns and they've always performed faultlessly. They also seem faster than the numerous WD drives I've used. Just lucky me, I guess! Or am I getting a better spec ones than everyone else?
