GarageBand Volume Levels

Hello to all,

I'm trying to record a series of voice overs in GarageBand, but am having one major problem. I import the backing track I want to use with no problems and record the copy (again, with no problems), but whenever I play back the track, the music by itself is quite loud, but when the voice comes in, the volume of the music drops drastically.

If there is a sufficient enough pause in the voice, the backing music then suddenly jumps back at a high volume, only to drop down very low again when the vocal comes back in.

Is there no way to keep the music at a set volume regardless of whether there is a vocal part being recorded/played at the same time?

Any suggestions to correct this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I don't think export and normalization is it, though.. I've not gotten to the export stage. I've just started GarageBand in Podcast mode, dragged and dropped a music track into the "jingle" track, started recording on the Male Vocal track, and am then playing the track back (just going back to the beginning and pressing play).

The quality of both is good, but the volume of the music just nose dives when the vocal comes in.

The only way I've found around this is to start a music project and add a vocal and instrument track and record from there.

Would be nice to find the cause of the problem in podcast mode as I find that layout easiest to work with when doing my voice overs.
 
I don't know if you're still looking for a solution, but I found it. It has to do with Garage Band's "ducking" feature. If you click on a track, go to the Control menu and select Ducking, which displays two arrows, Up and Down beside the panning control. Ducking allows you to set a track as Primary, so the other tracks alter their volume levels to give berth to the primary track. I guess it might be cool under certain circumstances, but I prefer to do my own ducking, thank you very much, using the track volume "rubber bands". The way to cancel the ducking features is to make sure all the up and down arrows are deselected (black). Hope this helps.
