hi everyone!

i just re-installed my mac with the latest os. after playing my backups back to the comp, some folders are secured. i never did that! now i can use the files inside, but i cant delete anything, nor can i put new files into the folders! in the info box, i cant switch off the secure box!

very strange..

welcome, but please read the board rules, the howto and faq section is where you post to tell everyone how to do something...

You might want to try doing a getinfo on the offending folder, go to the ownership and permissions section, click the padlock, then set the owner to yourself with access read and write, you should probably change the group to your group - most likely Staff, set others as you please.

Then click apply to enclosing items, hopefully that is problem solved.

Once again welcome to macosx.com!

thx for answering, but this is not the solution. i tried this many times with different groups and users but it wont work. i dont think the folder behaves normally, something must have gone wrong during copy or something, as it is the only folder this problem ever occured with. i just cant get rid of this folder. but thank you anyway.

Permissions....Repair Permissions with the Disk Utility on the computer with the permissions problems. One should monthly Repair Permissions with the Disk Utility in the Utilities folder. With third party add ons and such Unix permissions can get pretty messed up. So people should get into the habit of Repairing permissions on a regular basis. This is not your daddy's Mac (os 9 or before):)
