Getting my first mac today OSX Questions

I knew there were open and closed apples on the Apple II keyboard. Does that count? 8)

jimbo61, give him a break! It's his first Mac, and he came here for help on how best to use it and what differences there were. No need to call him names or anything -- he just doesn't know all the ins and outs of Mac OS X yet. Help him, don't bash him!

symphonix: I can tell you're an old-school Mac user, like I am... I still refer to the Command key as the "Open-Apple" key... I'll bet half the users here don't remember, once upon a time, there were TWO Apple keys on old Apple/Macintosh computer keyboards: "open apple" and "closed apple" that did different things... hehe... those were the days!

You HAD to make me reminisce about my Apple //c, didn't you!! :(

Just joking....speaking of the Apple //c, I wonder if my father still has it in his house... maybe I can get a power supply for it as I believe that was the cause of it's death. Right before it died, the power would pop when you turned it on. I hope the logic board is still ok...

:( No clue on the Apple II. Hey, that almost rhymes!

Those were the days. Of course, I couldn't afford a $2000 Apple II back then. I had to settle for an Atari computer, which was very nice. But it didn't have any Apple keys~~strangely enough.

Which Atari model was it? I would love to find myself one (particularly one with MIDI ports). I have this thing for vintage machines. :p

Sorry for being a bit off topic, but I had to ask... :p

Good news, nixgeek, is that Atari will very soon be launching a new console, "Atari Classic", specifically for its nostalgia value. It will be a very simple, very low cost console with two classic-style joysticks, and will have a handful of 5800 and 2600 games built-in. The low price, simple setup and nostalgia value should make it a hit.

The Ataris with MIDI ports weren't 'game consoles' but desktop computers. Very capable ones: The Atari ST, TT and Falcon series, to be exact. Back then, they were _quite_ capable home computers for much a nicer price than a Mac. ;-)

I didn't have an ST. I first had an Atari 800-type computer (130XE), roughly comparable to the Commodore 64. After that, I had an Amiga. THAT was a cool machine.

Course, I like my Macs better now. ;)
