hello people....
i have just updated my g4 powerbook to 10.4.5. on the restart, my graphics have been reduced to what looks like 256k colours. i have tried a reinstall, repair really but get the same problem...in system preferences, it is showing that i have 32bit colour as normal.
any takers?
thanks in advance...

Delete the contents of ~/Library/Preferences/byhost and reboot (inside your home directory) and see if that helps.

thanks for the suggestion but i am afraid that has not worked.
the screen is ok until it fully boots up, goes to what looks like 256k colours.
i am thinking of a total reinstall and see what happens....
thanks again.

Try looking in "Universal Access" in the System Preferences -- specifically, the "Contrast" of the display. It may have inadvertently gotten turned up or something.

ElDiabloConCaca.
thank you very much for that. it was the very problem!!!! but have never been in that setting so that was the last place to look.
thanks again.....
