GREY "Restart" Box on Boot

Hello Everyone,

I am a little worried about this. Perhaps someone can help clear this up - any help would be appreciated.

At times, when I boot my G4 400 mac, there's a grey box that has multiple languages and asks me to restart my computer or hold the power button for a few moments.

There is no indication as to what would cause this to happen.

Anyone have any ideas?

Yes, that multi-language grey shutdown box is the infamous 'kernel panic'
typically, the first item that causes this is bad memory, or perhaps external hardware, such as a badly behaving USB hub. Can also be problems with a bad install/update of the OS X. But you should troubleshoot first for possible bad hardware.

Thank you for the quick reply!!!!

I'll look into the hardware aspects, then the software.
