Hard Drive Icon Striped?

Have you repaired permissions? Have you booted with the OS CD - and do not install - go to the installer menu>Disk Utility and have it repair the drive.
 
What machine do you have and what graphics card is installed in the machine? I remember this being a specific issue with either ATi or NVidia cards under OS X 10.1.x.

With the specifics of your setup, I can probably hunt down a solution or an answer.
 
What, may I ask, does that striping on the icon mean? I'm from the OS9 school, so my advice would be go rebuild the desktop!

Your advice would be wrong. No rebuilding in OS X like in 9.x.

Like ElDiabloConCaca says, it was a problem related to a video card.
 
Right....that's what I am saying. My question is why would a video card cause the harddrive icon to change? I know that there is no rebuilding in OSX.
 
I don't remember exactly why it happens. I did a little searching but haven't found anything.
 
It's just a graphics glitch. It may be a specific glitch, but that's all there is to it. No one can say why certain bugs cause certain glitches; they just happen.
