Hard drive- no power need help trouble shooting

My wife has a verbatim 1 tb external hard drive. It has no power now. I asked her if it was making any strange sounds, acting odd, nothing as far as I know. I ordered a new power supply wondering if it had gone bad, but it did not turn on. There is no light, no signs of life with the unit. I was wondering what the next step is. Would it be beneficial to get a new HD case and try and move it into that to see if it would power up? Just not sure what to do.

Yes, you should try a different case.
If you still get nothing, then you can be more certain that the hard drive is simply dead.
