help! firefox update screwed up computer!

Thanks everyone! The problem is solved with a combination of approaches, mostly trashing com.mozilla.firefox.plist and restarting. Of course, I needed to reset all my accounts in Mail but that was a small price.

PROBLEM SOLVED

So it is true you can only solve things when you aren't trying :p I had given up on it for a long time, then yesterday I did a desktop cleanup and deleted everything on the desktop and restarted my computer and there that hard drive icon was and I left some stuff on the desktop yesterday and now as I login, they are still there! Yay!
