Help "seeing" a DVD on Mac mini

Peeps, this site is a bit daunting ...... but nothing ventured nothing gained, so here goes:

When I was in Florida, I was on TV*, my 3 minutes of fame. OK, sad, but it gets sadder.

My Windows XP equipped neighbour managed to catch the feature via the TV card in his PC & he burned it onto a Sony DVD+RW disc.

Strange thing, the DVD won't play back at all in his computer, & although it did play back on one Windows XP PC, on my PC & those of a couple of friends it starts to play back but after about 6 seconds the PCs crash.

So I bought a Mac mini thinking all would be well, only to find the DVD doesn't even show up on the mini, let alone play back. Other DVDs work fine, but not this one.

Anyone any ideas?

* you don't want to know; well, if you do, & I ever get the damn thing working & copied I'll tell you where it's hosted!

Did you get a drive with the Mini that can read a DVD+RW disk? Click on the left blue Apple (in the Finder Menu) and select " About This Mac". When the window pops up, select "More Info". Then the System Profiler will launch highlight "ATA" and tell us what drive is installed.

OK, first try launch /Applications/Utilties/Disk Utility and "Repair Permissions". Once that is done try to Reset Pram. After that, I have no idea, Good Luck.

If all else fails ... try this route: "Rip" the DVD on the PC that can read it, then transfer the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders to your Mini. DVD Player should be able to play it this way. If you want to put it on your own DVD, I recommend Roxio Popcorn. Hope this helps.
