I'm looking at aiport express on mac's website, but i am just curious on how it works. You can just plug this express module in the wall and boom you have a net connection or what?? Does Express have to download info from your router? I know it sounds stupid, but could someone explain it to me?
i could just take the express and bring it to my school and i'll have a net connection (when i plug in into an outlet) or have just nothing? any information

you would plug it into a power outlet for power oviously

then plug the cable modem / dsl / school ethernet cable into the airport express

assuming ur internet connection automatically assigns a ip address and the rest of it, ur fine

otherwise, u would use included software to configure it.

then, apple products working great with other apple products, ur ibook / tower should pickup the airport express automatically and use it

Yes, you do need an ISP to get internet connectivity with it... you'd also need an Airport-equipped Macintosh to be able to access it.

Think of it as an Airport Base Station, but it plugs directly into the wall and is smaller.
