How to extend length of time Mail saves my emails

I find that Mail deletes emails from my Trash far too soon. How can I extend the length of time messages are retained for?

open Mail and then go to Mail's Preferences. in the Preferences pop-up click on each email server setup you have and then click the Mailbox Behaviors mini-tab and in the 'Trash' toggle bar select Never, One Day, One Week, One Month, your choice.
