how to recover lost files/applications

after (stupidly) changing the name of my (admin) user folder /Users/ by just clicking on the folder and typing a new name, I have lost many applications and application setting/preferences, including my IPhoto library, is there a way of getting them back? or of displaying all documents and applications of any user? maybe with a terminal script?

Never a good idea to change the name of a folder you didn't create.

ElDiabloConCaca - thanks! I realise that now! - and thats what I said to apple customer support when they said that 'they don't recommend changing the name of that folder, in that particular way - therefore, we cannot help you'. - thanks for the help apple!
