How to replace CD player with CD-R in older G4?

I'm stumped. Without disassembling the whole case of my G4 tower (or at least taking out the power supply), how do I remove the original CD player? It has a zip drive right below it, which I'm not using right now. I have a CD-R that's compatible with my Mac and should (theoretically) fit in the same space. Has anybody done this? Thanks.

If by "older," you mean one of the first generation G4 towers (like the AGP model or the Digital Audio model), then here's an illustrated guide on how to do it:

It's fairly simple, and after doing that procedure once or twice, you can probably relegate it to memory and perform it again without much hassle -- it's that simple. Open case, release front plastic face, slide out carrier, install, re-install.

Good luck!
