Since intel macs are using MACosx for intel cpus does that mean that the OS will be vulnerable to virus attacks?

No. Different operating systems.

Think about it for a minute: Linux also runs on Intel systems, but are immune to Windows virii.

A trojan or virus has to be created to specifically attack the operating system itself or a program on an operating system.

As far as I can see, there are no downsides from using an Intel processor over a PowerPC processor other than nostalgic reasons.

If I had a dime for the number of times I've seen this scenario pop up in the form of a question or a statement, I'd have enough fora MacBook right now. :p
