HP iPod... what is the difference?

It's branded and sold by hp and is a different color, plus it's pre-formatted for PCs (Apple iPods are pre-formatted for Macintosh computers). That's about it -- functionally, the hp iPod and Apple's iPod are identical.

All G4 iPods sold by Apple are Mac compatible 'out of the box'. PC users will have to install and format the iPod for use on Windows with the included software. HP iPods are PC compatible 'out of the box.'

I'm not sure there is a difference. I saw one at CompUSA the other day, and it was an iPod, complete with Apple logo on the back. Of course, this didn't reveal the format of the hard drive.

You know, my brain wants to say that I heard something about the whole hp-style iPod being nixed, and hp just selling Apple-branded iPods through their stores... but, you know, links elude you at the worst times... :(

HP-sold and Apple iPods are identical hardware, except every HP iPod has an HP logo on the back. The serial numbers for HP units are distinctive to HP. You won't get Apple support for an HP branded unit. The Windows support from HP would probably be better (my most common question about iPods "how do I install this software on a PC?"), if you can actually get an understandable HP tech on the phone.
