I can't get my screen to return to normal after having hooked up an external monitor. I've disconnected the external monitor and powered my laptop off and on several times, but everything remains extra large as if it's in the mode for a larger, external monitor. The mac help website is, as usual, useless.

Open System Preferences, Displays, and change the resolution to your native resolution, which would be the largest set of numbers. That should get your internal display back to normal.
Why did it change, then not change back when you removed the external display?
Did you change the settings, to turn mirroring on? That would change the resolution to one used with both displays, as both would show exactly the same image. Is that what you had? Then, disconnecting the external may have left the internal with the same settings. Shouldn't do that, could be simply a leftover glitch from the external display.

DeltaMac you called it with, "Open System Preferences, Displays, and change the resolution to your native resolution, which would be the largest set of numbers"- problem solved. Thanks!
