I feel foolish for asking but on my new i7 MacBook Pro, I noticed that it only shows 4 processor threads. It was my understanding that because of hyper-threading that there should be a total of 8 threads, I am right?

When you say "it only shows 4 processor threads", what do you mean by "it?"
Activity Monitor - or some other utility?

Hyper-Threading allows 2 threads to run simultaneously on each core, each thread on a virtual core, so up to eight virtual cores. The turbo boost function will also clock up the processors, and disable unused cores for more performance when needed.
So, yes, 8 virtual cores, if all are needed by the system and the app running at that time.
