Hi the above iBook froze and I had to turn it off by keeping power button pressed.
When I turn it on I can hear the the start up chime but the system won't start.
All I get is a blank white screen.

I have tried to zap the PRAM but this has not solved the problem.

Any tip on how to resolve this?

Many thanks
Tom

Boot up from your original install CD/DVD (holding the 'c' key at boot time), then run Disk Utility to check your drive for errors.

Yikes... a computer without install disks is like a car without keys! Where did your original install disks go?

Something else you can try in lieu of the install disks is to boot into "single-user mode" by holding the command and 's' keys at startup. At the prompt, type 'fsck -y' and press enter. Keep running it until the message "The filesystem was modified" does not appear anymore. That's basically like booting from the install CD/DVD and running a disk check, but it's not quite as thorough. It may help, though.

Well a friend of mine changed the hard drive (broken after the computer fell from laps) and installed a new system (think 10.4.5).

Computer froze a couple of months ago but all I had to do is to zap the PRAM.

Thanks for help but nothing happend when holding command and S.

Guess will have to phone friend to ask for install disk.

Ok have got all Tiger 4 CDs - yes on CDs.

Have tried to boot using CD 1 - holding 'c' key but nothing happens.
Tried CD 4 - same as above.

Anything else I can try?

Next question. I wanted to install Tiger on my old G3 - How do you erase the old system and start from there.

What do the CDs look like? What color are they? What version of Mac OS X do they have printed on them? Are they black disks (retail), grey disks (computer-specific), or some other color?
