ibook g4 'invalid memory access...'

My ibook says:
Invalid memory access at SRR0: 8486a4 SRR1: 00003030

when I try to start up.
I tried reset-nvram
reset-all
and that did not fix the problem.

can you help??
 
initially it did work, but the problem does come back. Sometimes it will start right up. Sometimes the screen doesn't even come up (it's just black.) Other times I get the invalid memory access message. Then occasionally after start up I get the death screen (computer must restart black transparent screen.) Also, on occasion, there is no airport card showing up. Maybe it's time to get a new one, but if there is any way I can fix it for now (as a single father going to school and working full time) that would be awesome!
 
I don't know if this is related, but these issues came up right after I installed Leopard, and got a airport express.
 
From your post, I gather that since installing Leopard, your iBook hasn't booted.

Leopard raised the minimum RAM needed for a mac to even attempt booting (I believe it's 512mb now, but I know it's more than 256, correct me if I'm wrong, people.)

If you meet the minimum, then try removing and reseating any RAM that's been added, as well as your Airport card. That may help. You may also simply be a rare victim of failing RAM.

Thanks! I'll try it. So, just to clarify, I should take out the ram and airport card and then reinstall them? I have maxed out the ram, so it should be okay in that respect. I'll try the next step. Special tools??
 
Exactly. For the iBook G4, the only tool you should need is a small phillips screwdriver. You can find the step by step take-apart guide over at ifixit.com/.

my girlfriend wanted me to make a scary costume this year. I love your line, because I was actually thinking of dressing up as a windows computer. lol
