ibook g4 will not load

Please forgive me as i am a newbie to mac. I just purchased a used ibook g4 running 10.5.7 was running last night and now it will not boot past the apple logo and spinning wheel then goes to black screen and starts loading again. ibook will start up in single user mode and was able to run fsck . message said hd appears ok, system was modified, then exited with signal 4 i have been on the forums and i am either not looking in the right place or doing something wrong. any help would be great. also i do NOT have any of the disks in order to run the other diagnostics on the machine

Eek... this is akin to purchasing a car without keys.

Now you've found yourself locked out of the "car" with no "keys" to get back to normal.

I would highly suggest contacting the original seller of the computer and kindly asking them to complete the sale by including the CDs/DVDs that originally came with the computer. Those CDs/DVDs should always go with the computer from owner to owner, as they are useless without the computer they came with.

Failing that, you may want to get your hands on a retail set of disks for mac OS X 10.5.

There is only a limited number of diagnostic routines you can run without booting from a CD/DVD -- and, if you can't get your problems resolved by trying the suggestions above, then you will need the original CDs/DVDs (or a replacement retail set) to get back up and running.
