iClean Memory

I have found out that the Iclean Memory app will make your computer page out some memory when you click free memory. I did not want to free memory but I happened to have my activity monitor open and I noticed. This could have been my problem when I thought I had a problem with paging out. Why does this app write to the hard drive to perform this task?

So, it follows that if you release memory, then data that is stored in that released memory has to go somewhere, so it would page out to the hard drive. Amazing, eh?
I could be wrong with that conclusion, or maybe it's simply a poorly coded utility.
Another questionable app that attempts to out-think the system...

And, another good reason to avoid many "system enhancement" utilities.
OS X doesn't really need much "help" to do its job.

If you don't have enough RAM, add some more.
Try to avoid those 'helper' apps.

Yeah I've come to the conclusion that I have adequate memory now, but will not hesitate to go to 8 GB if my system starts to slow down.
