icon "ghost" persists

Hello,
I tried deleting a file, but something happened and now it appears on my desktop as a "ghost" (transparent icon). The file does not appear on the Finder or when searching for it using Sherlock, but the transparent image persists even after restarting the computer. Any ideas what could be causing this, and how to get rid of this image? I cannot click on it either.

What file is it, and when you go into the terminal can you see it there.

If you're not versed on the terminal, here'show to check:
Open Applications -> Utilities -> Terminal
type cd Desktop then ll (that's LL not one-one). See if the file is in that list. Press CONTROL-D to close the shell when you're done.
