I'm trying to change an icon - the purple globe that denotes the Internet Connection programme. I just want to change it to a blue variant I've found on-line.

It's easy enough to use the usual method - pull the purply globe off the dock - then open finder - go to applications - open up the internet connection programme in the finder, get info, cut and past - works a treat.

Drag the new icon down to the dock - and it looks great.

But as soon as I click on it to open it - it reverts back to type.

Any thoughts anyone? Is it a'permissions' issue?

Treat me gently - new to Macs!

Thank You.

Try going to "Applications" folder
cntrl+click on the app in question,
click on "Get Info",
now paste your new icon here,
then drag this app to the dock,
should run, and keep it's new icon now.
This works for me, your milage may vary...

Control Click or Right Click on the Internet Connect App to Show Package Contents - then Contents.Resources

You'll see NetworkConnect.icns

They are the icons. Replace with what you want.

Just save that icns file somewhere rather than trashing it.

"Replace with what you want." – this of course means you'll have to have an .icns file of the icon you want the application to have. Just copying/pasting won't work here...
